Contradiction: Be who you are, not what you Believe

We believe that we have to meet expectations. What expectations? We believe we need to fight? Fight against what? We believe in ourselves. Do we? We want to achieve something farfetched? Really! I think we have all been there or somewhat experienced these questions. We believe.. what does it really mean?
According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, believe means so many things; truth, faith, conviction, opinion, accept etc. So what do you believe in? I believe in living a full healthy balanced life. Life is short, as they say. Life is long depending on your beliefs. I love my religion and I have faith. You do. I do too. I believe that the end of the road is not really the end of the road. It is the beginning of something new. It never ends. A person who has passed away is still here in spirit. Is it true?
Be you. That's all you can be. Don't be what you believe you should be or what others perceive you to be. We have a tendency to believe others before thinking about what we believe about ourselves. We are so quick to say I can't do this or I wish I could do that. Believe in yourself and you can make it happen. It may not be overnight or even achievable sometimes, but you will be happy you made the effort. It will pay off. Believe in you.
Be you. I once overheard a conversation that, for purposes of this article I will use Jill, had a negative connotation or implied message that someone was stupid. It shocked me. The person who said it had a self conscious that was desperately needing attention. To block her own self indiscretions, she passed it on to others making them feel small or powerless. She also held information that could be used to do her work better but wanted to hold on to that edge. This is an example of her believing that she had the power which she did and took advantage.
Be you. No one else can. It is quite amazing to know that no one, even if they are identical, can be exactly you. They can wear the clothes, makeup, shoes, hat, and glasses or even portray your actions and still not be you. Personality types could be similar, but there's always something that is distinguishable: birthmark, scar, tattoo, slightly larger or smaller, or unique actions etc. Take charge of who you are. Know where you are headed. Believe in the future, past, and present. It's important! Yes it is.
I believed in myself a long time ago and I am proud of where I am. Someone's looking out for me, because I believe in him!

Top-level comments on this article: (8 total)Yes!! I love what you say here, James, it so speaks to me. I love this: "Be you. That's all you can be. " Lately I've really started to let myself be, not let anybody push me around or throw spoiling ideas at me. It's the most wonderful experience. It's a wonderful experience to know who you are and where you're headed. Enjoy life.
Yes, James just be yourself that's the answer.I love myself. I am a part-time narcissist.
Certainly James, you cannot be anybody else other than you. There is whole world of treasure lying in us like a pandora's box. :-) Very well said. Thank you.
DMOutstanding. Pandora's box is the best expression yet. I have unleashed some of my box. What will I do next, Is the question?Answer - Exploring them one by one and let it manifest slowly. There is no rush. Just relax and enjoy this treasure. :-)Will do.
A most thought-provoking article and one which brings much awareness. I agree that many people are in such a "constant state of becoming who they should be" that they forget who they really are. We must accept who we are, become friends and be always open to renewing our minds. Thanks for writing this and sharing your thoughts! SuzyThought well taken. I am glad this article has been revealed and disseminated to readers out there. Be you. Be yourself and everything else will fall into place. Unless of course, it's your career on the line such as being an actor or actress etc.....and try to remember not to make a problem out of so many things.Yes, sensitivity is an entirely new issue. One has to learn to differentiate between constructive criticism and sarcasm, which are only just a few to mention etc.
Nothing I love more than real people. I don't know how people can live any other way than to be themselves. Good article James.Yes, it's almost impossible to be someone else. You would have to know everything about them. It reminds of a movie I saw where a gentlman was pretending to be someone else and had to do everything he did. Of course the perpertrator knew he was imitating someone who had perished from storing his blood and DNA I believe. It was a sci-fi movie.
Sounds like you went through many experiences to find out who you are and are now okay with it. Kudos to you and all the hard work you went through to get there.Thank you. I underwent a 360 a long time ago. It changed me for the better. Now I love myself. I really do. Honest.
James, you are so right. Be yourself, believe in yourself and you can make amazing things happen. Or, as you said, you can at least rest easy at the end of each day. Thanks for writing this. No, thank you for your comments. It's comments like these that keeps me going. Let the adventures continue.
I agree with you completely, excellent and well written article. So many people aspire to be what others think they should, and allow others to pressure them into being something they'd rather not be. Life is much more enjoyable when one is being oneself.
Ditto! Thanks for the words of encouragement. Being yourself is the key to your own happiness. You cannot please everyone in life. That's just the bottom line, so if being yourself affects someone else, in a negative sense, then maybe that person needs to reevaluate themselves.
